Funny title considering where I stand on the heat issue.
When Sol and I got married, way back in 2003, we took a very interesting honeymoon. He was graduating from Goddard College in Vermont a few weeks later, and I wanted to be there to see him get his MFA. So we packed up our car and headed across the country to Vermont, staying with friends, family, and camping along the way. A very generalized map of our journey would show us driving south from Fresno, California, across the desert southwest, through Texas, the deep South, up through the Carolinas into Virginia, and up north to Vermont. Then we headed further north into Canada and back across the northern US. We ended the trip back in Fresno where we started about 5 weeks later. It was an amazing trip that we'll never forget. Aside from the not-forgetting, it has also left us with an insatiable urge to hit the road every time we have a few days to rub together.
Five years, 3 cities and 2 tiny children later, we still have that itch. We still want to take off on that open road with only a final destination in mind. And this summer, that is what we plan on doing. Not only will it be our first major wedding anniversary (five years!), this is also the first summer that Sol has had not only vacation, but also a paycheck coming. Very exciting news.
So early in May, we'll pack up our minivan. We'll give the girls a crash course in camping and cheap hotels. We'll explore some states that we've just jetted through before and come down through northern California. We are going to rent a cabin in Mendocino for a week and then we'll end up where all vacations end up - Fresno, California. Stay tuned for the exciting details...
